Love

If human love does not carry a man beyond himself, it is not love. If love is always discreet, always wise, always sensible and calculating, never carried beyond itself, it is not love at all. It may be affection, it may be warmth of feeling, but it has not the true nature of love in it. -Oswald Chambers

Oswald is a smart guy. So is Shakespeare, who I immediately thought of after reading this.

"Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark"

Ric,
I think I prefer teaching students, because the reward of seeing them put the pieces together is tremendous. We had our youth group winter camp over President's Day weekend, and it was such a joy to get to see the moment of those students figuring things out. I have a million stories I could share from the past year where I've seen this happen...

If you're in Seattle at all over the next few months, let me know. I teach pretty regularly on Wednesday nights and I'm actually going to be talking to Richard today about preaching at a service on a Sunday. YIKES!

But, as one youth worker to another, thanks for your reflections.
